The Australian Government Department of Human Services (the department) would like to advise private health insurers and billing agents that you can now access Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) to use the Find a Patient functionality.

Private health insurers and billing agents using a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) site certificate have access to the following services through HPOS:

· Search for an individual patient’s Medicare number using details provided by the patient.

· Confirm an individual patient’s Medicare number based on existing patient information.

· Upload a secure bulk request to Medicare for up to 500 Medicare numbers.

Please see the attached instructions for installing a site certificate as there are separate instructions for each internet browser.

If you don’t have a PKI site certificate please visit the department’s website and complete the Application for a Public Key Infrastructure Site Certificate (HW001)
